Website Process
This blog post explains the progress I went though in order to create the website for my advertising campaign. Firstly I choice two contrasting images. Firstly I cut out the image of the students sat at a table working. In contrast I overlapped this with a
n image of an man wearing dark clothes holding a knife. I also decided to base this all on a black background I did this for two main reasons. Firstly using dark image is a common code and convention amongst most horror advertising campaigns. Secondly as there is light reflecting of the knife it makes it stand out much clearer and therefore it becomes
the most eye-catching aspect of the page. The next step was to add what would become the links on a full working advert. I chose to break up the links with small white bars this simplys makes the website look neater a better layed out. I also applied a bar with production titles at the bottom of the site. I also added a quote relevant to advertisement campaign. There also links out off the site to similar contents such as fansites facebook and
twitter. This section would be continues throughout the site the only thing which would change would be the background image and the general contents of the page depending on what link they selected. I then overlapped these two sections together to create the layout for my homepage.
I decided to add some last minute changes to the home page such as a slight fade to black around the edge of the image. I also added the title of the production and a date of realise.

Production Stills
We've had to change the storyboard several times since the ini

We had decided that the keys will be a link between all of our advertisements. They are therefore a key item within our trailer. This is why we decided to add scenes which showed our villain collecting the keys.

Progress so far
I am creating a production campaign for the movie ‘Locked Away’ this campaign consists of a movie trailer which we have now filmed and are into the editing stage. A radio advertisement which we intend to record next week and have all of the pre-production sorted for. A magazine front cover which I have practised creating and have researched similar projects. And the home page of a website which like the magazine cover I have practised and examined similar projects. I also have a number of images taken throughout the filming of our trailer which I can use in both the website and the magazine cover.
I think as far as developing my understanding about these media forms, I have learned more about magazine front covers and the importance of their layouts then the other media forms. I decided early in the production that I would make a cover of ‘sight and sound’ which is a magazine about films and containing mainly film reviews. From what I can gather there isn’t really much of a consistency with the image on sight and sounds’ cover. Whereas other magazines such as Empire consist manly of action poses from the leading character, sight and sound has a much wider range. Were this dose give me free roam with the image it doesn’t help me in deciding what sort of image would be appropriate for the cover. In comparison my understanding behind movie trailers hasn’t increased as much from last year. Although we were producing an open scene last year rather than a trailer, both try to achieve the same thing which is draw the audience in and make them ether go see the movie or stay and watch it. However something I have learnt more about within the pre-production stage of our trailer are the rules which all movie trailers have to abide by. Although these rules are mostly for television and film trailers and ours is a viral campaign (online) we chose to use these rules as a guideline for our production.
As far as websites are concerned I tend to treat them in the same way I do magazine covers. They have similar codes and conventions to ultimately achieve the same goal. It might be argued that website homepages are simply online magazine covers. However my website would be for fans of the film and therefore will have to be laid out differently then the magazine covers which is much more academic and for people who enjoy watching a whole range of films rather than one type in particular. Finally as the radio advert. This is something which is becoming increasingly rare in modern society. Radio advertisements mainly consist of companies and products but very rarely are they for films, at least not in the way we have decided to produce. The kind of advertisement done on radio these days is called ‘below the line’ advertisements, the kind which doesn’t cost the company any money to produce. For example an interview with the star of the movie is becoming an increasingly popular form of advertisement.
As far as our production is concerned we have produced a completely new target audience based around the target audiences of similar productions. I believe initially the target audience for a movie is a specific person/group of people who have certain traits and behave in certain ways. However the good thing about advertisement campaigns is they aren’t initially targeted at that one person/group of people, instead they are much broader so they attract people who aren’t exactly there target audience but have similar traits to them.
Fortunately for me the other members of my group are much more organised then I am which means we have managed our time very well. However I am slightly worried that we are running short on time in lesson to do any more pre-production. My independent work seems to be taking something of a back seat to the group work as it will take me much less time to do. In listen at the moment my time is taken up by the editing of our production so I will have to spend some time in the learning gateway in order to get the production of my other pieces finished by the deadline. The hardest part of the pre-production so far is properly the sheer amount to do. Although I and the rest of my group have managed to achieve allot and have finished all of the essential pre-production steps there is still more we need to do.

Pre-production progress
We are now well into the pre-production of our four media texts. My group decided to focus mainly on the film at this point as during the production we can take production skills to use in our film and magazine cover. I generally have difficulty with my organisation which has a negative effect on the preproduction of my coursework. However the other members of my group are much more organised so the pre-production has been going much better then I thought it might be.
We now have a good understanding of the content and general narrative structure of our campaign. We have also finished both the storyboards and scripts necessary for our production. So far I believe that the pre-production stage is going well and we will be able to film within the week once we have finished all the necessary planning and booked all of the equipment and rooms for our production.

Media and collective identity websites
http://www.facebook.com/
This was something of an obvious choice when it comes to users being able to represent their own identity. Facebook like most websites which allow user generated media is a web 2.0 site; it is also one of the most popular social networking sites at the moment. However this isn’t necessary because of the ability for users to edit and create there own pages because your options are much more limited on Facebook then for example Bebo.
The main reason that Facebook has become such a great success is the way the site is laid out and run. It is aimed at the best possible age group. In comparison Friends Reunited was one of the first social networking sites, but in comparison Friends Reunited was a failure. Perhaps one of the largest elements to this failure is the fact that friends reunited aimed at a much older age group then Facebook. Whereas Facebook aimed at a generation which grew up using computers and the internet.
Facebook users have the opportunity to create their own page. This in turn is them creating their own identity. However this is limited to the materials provided by Facebook. It is possible to draw parallels here with the idea of how people create there identities from magazines, you pick and choice from the list provided what you want to be. This is an example of compulsory individuality. Although people can create their own groups which get posted onto their page and in turns says to everyone something about them. Facebook also has the ability for people to post comments which also in turn allow them to create there online identity. This also ties in with the 'hierarchy of needs.' People want to be accepted so they online post things which they believe will be acceptable within there social group. This may also be why you have the option to remove comments you have previously posted, in case they have not been accepted or in this case 'liked.'
http://www.blogger.com/
This only started to become clear to me though my time using with my coursework. To better understand the site I start reading though other peoples blogs. Blogger allows anyone with internet access to share for free any ideas or opinions that they have and allows other people to post comments and therefore express their own opinion about what was originally posted.
The website is completely free and requires no credit card information to use and therefore is open for anyone to use however I believe it is aimed at a slightly older audience. The general set out looks plain and professional; you would expect it to look brighter and more childish if aiming at a young audience. Also it is very easy to use so you do not necessary have to have a great understanding of computers to use it.
Blogger is similar in nature to social networking site such as facebook and there for people will still mediate what they post on their blog as it is viewed round the world. This is an example of who people try to reinforce their position or social standing within that particular social group.
http://www.systemofadown.com/
This is a fan website for the band system of a down. Naturally it is aimed at fans of the band this is shown though many ways first of all the heading of the site is SOAD which is the abbreviation used by fans of the band. Secondly on the main page is a picture of fans rather than the band which shows that this site was made for them. There is also automatic streaming music from the band on the opening page and clinking on the link to the message board open that page in a new window so it does not stop the music.
This sites only audience is fans of the band. There isn’t much to indicate a certain age or gender, although most fans of system of a down are older than fifteen. There is some indication of this site trying to attract people of various age groups. Evidence of this can be found on the links page of the website. This contains links to sites such as their Facebook and Myspace pages which as i mentioned early attract a much younger audience however there are also links to pages for people who want to do something about the themes they play about, such as war.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/
This site has a much more obvious audience, Xbox users to be precise. This site was set up for people with an Xbox live account to manage their account view which of their friends is online and what they are doing. Therefore in order to access the features of this site you must first have an account and therefore become part of that collective identity. However it has limited resources to allow people to participate on the collective identity.
There is a forum or message board as many put it which allow people to have discussions related to the Xbox community and you can message other members directly but apart from that there a very few features which allow people to contribute to the collective identity.
http://www.youtube.com/
You could argue that YouTube is a representation of almost all collective identities. As it is mostly user generated content is gives people the opportunity to create their own identities and with the ability to favourite other peoples videos so they can contribute to a collective identity. YouTube helps to reinforce this idea by giving you suggestions of what else you might want to watch taken into account what you have already seen.
Although Youtube dose comes with a large social representation of Youtube users it also comes with many subclasses each with their own 'cultural capital.' For example in a group of people who all like similar the person who’s seen the latest music video from that group becomes the most important member of that group. Youtube allows people to gain cultural capital in there group.
